Visitor and Education Centre, Bad Muskau

Our proposal takes inspiration both from the cultural and natural heritage of the UNESCO Geopark and its edifices. The extension is imagined as a simple, slender roof on the northern side of the Cavalier House, housing all needed programs: the new entrance, the exhibition ‘loop’ as well as the Tertiary Plant World. We enforce the narrative of interaction between climate and landscape, between raw materials and their site-specific, economic use. We achieve more with less – by using a minimal architectural expression, we aim to complement the existing Cavalier House, rather than compete with it.
